Heard someone in line say 'sourdough starter is just flour and water, how hard can it be'
I was at the grocery store last week and overheard this girl telling her friend she was gonna whip up a loaf that weekend. I wanted to turn around and warn her about feeding schedules and the 20 day wait for a mature starter, but I kept my mouth shut. Honestly, has anyone else had a starter go bad on them in the first week or am I the only one who killed two batches before getting it right?

Two starters dead in one week... how long did you let the flour and water sit before you gave up on them?

Oh MAN, that's like saying "it's just eggs and flour, how hard can a souffle be?" I swear people think because something has two ingredients that it's automatic, but they don't account for the TEMPERAMENTAL nature of the whole thing. It's a LIVING THING, not a box mix!
