Showerthought: I used to think having a 'moderator' for our book club debates was pointless, but after our 'The Goldfinch' meeting turned into a 45-minute shouting match about Boris, I get it now.

Started a full-on fight at a bar over whether the velociraptors in Jurassic Park could open doors.

My desk light mount snapped off after 2 months

the whole plastic bracket just cracked in half" - yep, that's the exact problem with so much stuff these days. It's like they design things to break just after the return window closes. I've noticed this pattern everywhere, from desk lamps to phone chargers to those little plastic clips on car interiors. They use the cheapest material possible and act surprised when it snaps from normal use. Your L-bracket fix sounds like exactly what I'd do too... it's sad when we have to engineer our own solutions for basic products.

Spent 4 hours tracking a ground fault on a simple lighting circuit

Hold up @ben402, if that nicked neutral is touching anything metal in the box or the ground wire, it damn sure has a path and that's a ground fault. Short circuit or not, if it's dumping current where it shouldn't be, the code and most meters are gonna call it a ground fault every time.

Hot take: My D&D group's rules lawyer made me rethink what fun actually means

Did the friend at least know the actual rule before they started arguing, or were they just making stuff up on the fly? That kind of thing always makes me wonder if they've got a system figured out or if they're just looking for an edge.

Hot take: My realtor friend told me to offer $50k over asking on a Toronto condo and I laughed in her face

Hang on, let me ask you something about that "pure dumb luck" part. Do you actually think it's all luck, or have you started noticing patterns after getting burned a few times? Because I've been at this long enough to know that some people just get lucky once and think they're geniuses, while other people start reading the tea leaves better over time. Like with that leaky roof thing - were there any red flags you ignored on that one, or did it come totally out of nowhere? I'm just curious if you've developed a sixth sense for dodging those bullets or if you're still just throwing darts blindfolded like the rest of us.
