I walked out of a class at the Denver Barber Academy thinking they had it backwards on clipper technique

Instructor kept pushing us to use a 90 degree angle for fading, said it was the only way to get clean blends. I tried it for 2 weeks straight on mannequins and every fade looked muddy. Switched to my old habit of a 45 degree angle and suddenly everything popped clean. Anyone else had a teacher swear by one method that just didn't work for you?

90 degrees is the standard for a reason, it keeps the fade consistent instead of getting patchy. Maybe your 45 was hiding mistakes that the mannequin hair texture didn't show?
