Took a walk-in at 4:55 and skipped my usual pre-close cleanup, bad move

I had a choice last Friday at my chair in Austin: either tell the walk-in I was booked for the day or take him and rush through my sanitizing routine. I picked the walk-in because he seemed chill and I hate turning people away. Ten minutes into the fade he asked for a design I hadnt done in like 2 years, so I was winging it with a trimmer line I barely trusted. Ended up taking 20 extra minutes, missed my ride share window, and the next morning I found hair shavings in my clipper oil because I skipped the deep brush down. Has anyone else had a walk-in wreck their entire closing flow and regretted not just saying no?

Had a walk in yesterday at the shop in Tulsa, guy wanted a skin fade and I was running on 3 hours sleep. I skipped the oil because my bottle was empty and figured I'd be fine. By the time I finished his fade he looked great but I was 45 minutes behind and my hand was cramping. Anyone else ever forget the basics and pay for it all day?

I used to break out the straight razor for every neckline back when I worked in Tampa, took forever and more nicks than I'd like to admit. Now I just use a trimmer for the bulk and a shavette for the detail, cuts my time from 25 minutes to 15 and guys actually tip better. Anyone else ditch the traditional blade for speed over show?

Walked into a barbershop in Nashville and walked right back out

Stopped in Nashville last Saturday for a quick trim while on a job. Place had great reviews online, looked clean from the sidewalk. I sat down and the guy asks what I want. I say just a fade and lineup, nothing fancy. He nods and starts buzzing. Ten minutes in he stops and says 'you got a lot of cowlicks back here, man' and before I can say anything he's already carved some weird part into the side of my head. I didn't even know I had a cowlick there. I just paid the 45 bucks and left. Drove back to my hotel and stared at the mirror for way too long. Who does a part without asking first? Is that a common thing now or did I just hit a bad shop?

I've been cutting for about 4 years now and I got real cocky with the modern styles. Now I'm trying to get my fade game sharper than my scissor work because that man proved demand isn't going anywhere. Any other young guys out there have to unlearn a hot take after watching an old timer work?

Bought a $600 clipper set, regret it bad

Everyone there was drooling over the new cordless stuff, but those old workhorse clippers cut cleaner than anything I've seen in 10 years. Discovered barber license rules vary by state more than I thought, Maine needs 1500 hours and Georgia only 900

Was looking into opening a second chair setup for a buddy who moved here from out of state. Checked the state board website and nearly fell over. Maine wants 1500 hours of training but Georgia only needs 900. Same trade, same scissors, half the time difference. He ended up having to take a 3 month refresher course just to transfer his license over. Has anyone else dealt with how stupid the reciprocity rules are between states?

I finally figured out why my fades look flat on camera

Last Tuesday a client showed me a pic they took under the fluorescent lights at their office and my fade looked like a gray smear, no blend at all. I realized I've been checking my work under the warm bulbs in my shop only, which flatters everything, so now I do a quick pass with my phone's flashlight before I finish.
