Snapped a chain link tool on a rusty freewheel last Tuesday in Austin
Had a crusty 90s Trek come in and the chain tool blade twisted clean off trying to break that seized link, so I grabbed a spare from my bench box but now I'm wondering if anyone else carries a backup pin extractor or just orders a new one every time this happens?
Chain tools snapping on rusty freewheels is just the bike gods reminding you who's boss. Carrying a spare blade or two is way cheaper than buying a whole new tool every time, unless you enjoy burning cash. That seized link probably wasn't going anywhere anyway without a torch and some prayers.
