Hit 500 miles commuting this year and it changed my mind about rain gear

I always thought rain pants were just for hardcore cyclists but after hitting 500 miles on my commute to work in Portland I got caught in a downpour and my jeans were soaked for 4 hours. Picked up a pair of Showers Pass pants on sale and they actually keep me dry without sweating like crazy. Anyone else hit a surprise milestone that made them rethink their gear choices?

Caught in a downpour and my jeans were soaked for 4 hours" is exactly what pushed me over the edge too. I always figured I'd just deal with wet pants but after one brutal ride where I was cold and miserable for the rest of the day I went for a pair. Now I won't leave home without them even if it's just a light drizzle because you never know when Portland weather will turn.

Caught in a downpour and my jeans were soaked for 4 hours" Oh I felt that in my bones, @theathomas. I read somewhere that wet jeans can triple your heat loss, and after one miserable ride I realized it was way easier to just pack the rain pants.
