I rode through downtown Austin last week and saw a huge jump in people using those big, bulky e-bikes for their commute.
It got me thinking about how the extra weight and speed changes the whole feel of sharing a bike lane, especially on crowded streets like Congress Avenue.

Actually, I love seeing more e-bikes downtown! The extra speed helps keep up with traffic flow, which feels safer when cars are trying to merge. Those heavier frames are more stable on rough pavement too. It just means we all need to be a bit more aware and use our bells. More people biking is a win, even if the bikes look different.
