Propane forge vs coal forge, 6 months of testing at my shop in Ohio
I ran both forges side by side for six months doing mostly farrier work and small knives, and the propane unit beat coal on every count except one. The coal forge heated faster for big stock but the smoke, ash cleanup, and fire management ate up about 40 minutes a day that I never got back. Has anyone else switched for good, or do you keep coal around for a specific job that propane just can't handle?

Damn, that 40 minutes a day is brutal when you add it up across a week. So what was the one thing coal did better? I gotta know if it's something worth keeping the dirty thing around for, or if it's like a niche thing you use twice a year.
