Overheard a guy at the thrift store say he polishes his vintage blazers with beeswax
I tried it on my 1970s Pendleton and it left weird greasy streaks, has anyone else ruined a good jacket trying some old-timer hack?

@jenniferwells basically described how to deep-fry a blazer without the chicken.

The real problem is probably technique not the beeswax. Most guys who recommend that are using it on raw wool or heavy tweed that's already been waxed before. Pendletons have that nice crisp finish and a protective coating from the factory. The beeswax is too heavy for that kind of fabric and it never soaks in right. You gotta warm the jacket up first with a hair dryer or something so the wax actually melts into the fibers instead of just sitting on top. Also you only need like a pea sized amount rubbed between your fingers first not a whole gob straight from the block. Your jacket probably just needs a good steam cleaning now to get that grease out before it sets in permanently.
