Waxed canvas finally clicked after a soaked hike
I used to rag on waxed canvas jackets as too stiff and annoying, but last Saturday in the rain near Flagstaff my nylon shell soaked through while my buddy's old Barbour stayed dry. Then I tried a tin of wax on a thrifted coat and watched water bead off like magic, way better than I expected. Anyone else flip their opinion after seeing waxed gear handle a real downpour?

That bead-up moment is real. The trick is how you rewax. Thin coats with a hair dryer on low, work it into the seams and shoulders where rain hits first, and let it sit overnight. Do it once a season and the jacket stops feeling like cardboard. Mine went from stiff and loud to soft and quiet after two rounds.
