Can we talk about the guy at Powell's in Portland who said my 2 player games were just solitaire with extra steps?
He watched me buy Patchwork and Cascadia last month and hit me with that line, and now I keep wondering if he had a point about how many of my "2 player" nights are really just me and one buddy taking turns staring at our own boards.
Patchwork and Cascadia are actually two of the better ones since you're at least fighting over the same tiles and animals. But I get what he meant. My buddy and I played Wingspan 12 times last winter and I swear half those games we barely looked up at each other. Here's my question though. When you sit down for one of these two player nights, how much of the game is actually reacting to what the other person does versus just working your own plan? Because if the answer is "not much," the Powell's guy might have a point, even if he said it like a jerk.
