Can we talk about a critique I got on my tube sheet layout?

An inspector in Omaha looked at my work on a 500-tube bundle and said my hole spacing was 'too perfect' for the gasket to seal right. He told me to add a 0.010 inch offset on every fifth row to account for thermal growth. I changed my drill template that same day. It felt wrong to build in a flaw, but the next unit I did passed the hydro test with zero weep. Has anyone else had to adjust a 'perfect' layout for real-world fit?

Build the flaw in, it works.

Oh man, that reminds me of my buddy's new coffee maker. It had a "self clean" mode that just broke it faster so you'd buy the newer model. Total planned failure.
