Flux core vs stick for overhead, what finally changed my mind?

Man, I spent the last 6 years running 7018 rod on all my overhead welds for pressure vessel repairs out in Port Arthur. Foreman swore stick was the only way, no questions asked. Then last month we get a rush job on a feedwater heater, and my buddy hands me his dual shield setup, says just try it. I laid one pass and it felt like cheating. Less spatter, way easier to control the puddle, and I finished in half the time. Now I'm wondering if I've been making this harder than it needs to be my whole career. Is there a legit reason to stick with rod on overhead besides old habits? Or is flux core just flat out better and we're all just stubborn? Has anyone else switched teams on this and never looked back?

Is it crazy to say I switched after one overhead bead and never touched a rod up there since?
