Heard a young guy at the supply house call a pipe bevel a 'metal ramp'
Made me think about how we used to learn all the names from the old crew on site. Now a lot of the new hires just learn from videos or apps. Do you still make a point to teach the proper terms to apprentices?

Kids pick up weird names... doesn't mean they can't do the job.

What else are we supposed to do? I heard a kid call a hacksaw a "metal cutter" last week and I just had to stop the whole thing. If they don't learn the right words from us, how will they ever ask for the right tool or explain a problem to the next guy? It's part of the job to pass that stuff on, not just how to bend pipe but what to call it. Letting that slide just makes the whole trade weaker.

Yeah, I'm guilty of that too... I called a torpedo level a "bubble stick" for a solid month before a foreman finally corrected me. Felt like a real idiot, but at least I learned it on the job from a person and not some video.
