I finally brought up the problematic narrator and things got tense
Last month at my Denver book club, we read a popular thriller where the narrator clearly lied to readers but the group kept praising it as 'unreliable.' I spent the whole meeting arguing it was just bad writing, not clever craft, and two members nearly walked out over it. Is calling out a flawed narrator worth wrecking the group vibe, or should someone have said something sooner?
