Spent $45 on a used hardcover set for book club and I'm the odd one out for hating it
Everyone in my club gushed over this pick for two meetings straight, so I grabbed the whole trilogy used for $45 at Powell's in Portland instead of waiting on the library hold. Turns out I can't stand the writing, and I'm the only one who thinks the middle book drags for 200 pages. I said my piece calmly at the last meetup and got hit with "you just didn't get it," which felt pretty cheap. So now I'm out 45 bucks and wondering if I missed something real or if the group just likes agreeing with each other. Has anyone else paid for a book club pick they ended up disliking, and did you finish it anyway?
