The one trick that saved my book club from endless arguments about endings
My book club spent 4 months fighting over whether ambiguous endings are lazy or deep. Someone suggested we each write a 1 paragraph alternative ending before discussing the real one. We tried it last month with a novel we all hated the ending of. It completely killed the pointless debate and got everyone talking about actual themes instead. After just one meeting it changed how we approach every book now. Has anyone else tried something like this to stop the same circular arguments in their group?

Four months of arguing about endings sounds exhausting for something that's supposed to be fun. My group has been together for six years and we just let people like what they like without any gimmicks. If someone thinks an ending is lazy and someone else thinks it's genius we just move on to the next book.
