Tried a new glue pot and ruined a whole batch of bookcloth yesterday

That cheap thrift store double boiler I picked up last week melted the PVA into a sticky mess and I had to toss 15 yards of buckram, so does anyone have a solid recommendation for a temperature controlled glue pot under $100?

My buddy Mike grabbed one of those cheap glue pots off Amazon and it turned his bookcloth into a crusty mess too.

Is it really that serious though? I mean, bookcloth is pretty forgiving stuff compared to other materials. I've used cheap PVA glue from the hardware store before and it worked fine as long as I didn't goop it on too thick. Maybe your buddy just got a bad batch or let the cloth soak too long.
