Greenhouse humidity trick from a greenhouse worker I overheard
At a plant swap in Portland last month, I heard a guy who runs a commercial greenhouse mention they keep a bucket of water in the corner during winter. Said it evens out the dry spikes from the heater better than any misting setup. I tried it in my small hobby greenhouse, about 10 gallons in a plastic tub, and my seedlings stopped getting crispy leaf tips within a week. Anyone else use a dumb low-tech fix like this instead of buying gear?

That water bucket is doing way less than you think. A 10 gallon tub in a small space might bump humidity a bit for a day or two, but the heater will dry it out fast, and you are back to square one. My own setup has a similar tub, and I measured it with a hygrometer for a week, it barely moved the needle on dry days. What actually fixed my crispy tips was putting a humidistat on my heat mat controller and venting less at night. Seedlings can also crisp from too much light or cold drafts, not just dry air. Low tech is fine, but watch your actual numbers before giving the bucket all the credit.
