My uncle said to stop watering my fiddle leaf fig so much
He told me to only give it a cup of water every two weeks. I thought he was crazy, but the leaves stopped turning yellow and dropping. Now it's actually putting out new growth. Anyone else have a plant that thrived on what felt like neglect?

It's wild how many houseplants are basically desert plants in disguise. They sell them as tropical decor, but their roots are built for drought. Maybe we're all just overcorrecting for the guilt of keeping something alive in a box.

Totally, the "guilt of keeping something alive in a box" hits hard! I killed so many succulents by watering them like my other plants. Now I just ignore them and they're thriving, it's crazy.

Right? The whole "ignore them and they thrive" thing is like my one weird parenting skill that actually works lmao. I've got a succulent that's been on the same shelf for two years looking exactly the same even though I probably water it like once every three months. But then I'll accidentally breathe on a fern wrong and it'll just give up on life. It's honestly kinder to some plants to just neglect them a little.
