Serious question, does anyone else think watering on a strict schedule is actually bad for houseplants?
I know the popular advice is to water your plants every Sunday or whatever, but I think that is wrong and it almost killed my pothos last month. I was at my apartment in Tucson, and I had this golden pothos that I watered every 7 days like clockwork because some blog said so. After about 6 weeks the leaves went yellow and mushy, and I could not figure out why until I stuck my finger in the soil and it was soaking wet. The roots were starting to rot because the soil never dried out in my dry climate, which sounds weird but the pot was too big and held water forever. So I stopped the schedule and just lifted the pot to feel how heavy it was, and only watered when it felt light. Two months later it is pushing out new leaves again. My neighbor still waters her plants every Saturday and wonders why half of them look sad. Does anyone else ignore the calendar and just check the soil, or am I the only one who thinks schedules are a trap?
Killed a snake plant that way myself, kept watering it every ten days because some app told me to and the thing just sat in wet dirt until the base turned to mush. Now I just pick pots up and water the light ones, schedules never worked for me.
