Update: My balcony herbs are drawing in bees like crazy

Lately, I've noticed more friends mentioning they want gardens that help bugs. My basil and mint plants flowered, and now bees show up all the time. It's neat how a small patch can do so much. I'm going to plant some lavender to see if that brings even more.

How do you keep your plants alive long enough to flower? My attempts are basically a bug hospice.
