A homeowner in St. Louis said my brick spacing looked 'off' from across the street

I was finishing a chimney rebuild last month and thought my 3/8 inch joints were perfect. The client came out, stood about 50 feet back, and said the vertical lines didn't look straight to him. I got up on the scaffold and checked with my level, and sure enough, a few courses were off by maybe an eighth of an inch. Now I always step way back to check my lines every few feet, not just up close. Do you guys have a set distance you check from, or just go by feel?

So the client has better eyes than your level? That's rough. I mean, maybe we all need to start carrying binoculars.

Honestly, my ego can't take this hit.
