Got a weird bulge in a curved wall and a string line wasn't cutting it.

Building a curved garden wall in Portland last week, and the middle section kept pushing out about half an inch. My old boss used to say to just use a long board, but that felt clunky. So I grabbed a cheap garden hose, filled it with water, and used it as a water level around the curve. It showed the exact high spot in seconds. Has anyone else used something weird like that to check for plumb on a radius?

Oh the garden hose trick is genius for a curve! I had a stone fire pit with the same problem, and I ended up using a piece of heavy mason's line tied to a brick as a plumb bob. I'd hold the line at the top course and let the brick hang down against the curve to spot the bulges. Your water idea is way cleaner though, no fighting with string.

Try a laser level on a tripod.

That's way smarter than my usual method of just squinting at it and hoping.
