Just hit my $3.50 per meal target after three months of trying

I finally cracked it last week - averaging $3.50 per meal for the whole month of October. The trick was switching to bulk dried beans from the bins at WinCo instead of canned ones. Saved me almost $12 a week and they taste way better after you figure out the soak timing. Anyone else hit a weirdly specific budget goal that took way longer than you thought?

Yeah @the_sean I tried that once and it Actually made a difference. The bay leaf adds this subtle earthy thing that cuts through the bitterness. Definitely worth a shot if you have one lying around.
