Update: My brother's family shares bulk buys with ours to keep costs down.
Splitting big packs of meat and rice has cut both our food bills in half.

Why assume you'll get stuck with stuff nobody wants? We just talk before buying anything. Last time, we passed on the giant mayo jar because both families knew we'd never use it. We split a bulk pack of pork chops and vacuum-sealed them into smaller portions. That keeps the freezer tidy and the savings real without the junk.

Wait, vacuum sealing? That's way too much work for some pork chops. Just throw them in a freezer bag and call it a day. You're making a simple thing way too complicated.

Honestly the real savings is when you get stuck with the 50 pound bag of lentils nobody wanted. You'll be finding creative ways to use them for a year, but hey, free protein. Just wait until they go halves on a warehouse club pack of mayonnaise, you'll have enough for a lifetime of potato salad. It's a great system until your freezer is just a monument to divided bulk chicken.
