My buddy in Denver swore hostels were cheaper than motels, so I tried it on a 4 day trip and saved $180
My friend Dave kept saying hostels beat motels on price and I never believed him until I went to Denver last month. He booked us a 4 night stay at a place near downtown for $32 a night while the cheapest motel nearby wanted $95. I figured it would be gross but it was clean and the people there gave us free tips on cheap food spots. We ended up saving about $180 total and met a guy who let us split a rental car to Rocky Mountain National Park. The only downside was shared bathrooms in the morning, which got old fast. Has anyone else done the hostel thing in the US or is it only worth it overseas?
