PSA: My brother told me to stop booking hotels in Paris
He said he always rents a room in a local's apartment for half the price. I tried it last month near Montmartre and saved over 300 euros for a 5-night stay. Anyone know other cities where this works well?

My friend did that in Tokyo and said it felt like living there, not just visiting. That Lisbon cooking lesson story from miles798 is exactly what I mean, you get a real local feel. It's like the whole travel industry is getting cut out, and I'm here for it.
