Almost lost $400 to a fake 'landlord' on Craigslist last month

I was in Columbus, Ohio, when this guy messaged me about a rental, demanded a $400 deposit via Zelle before the viewing, and my gut said no. I called the real property management company, they confirmed the listing was stolen, and I got out before sending a cent. Has anyone else had a rental scam slip through that looked completely legit?

Saw the same thing happen to my buddy in Denver last year, he wired $300 for a condo that turned out to be a real Airbnb listing someone copied. The actual owner had no idea their photos were floating on Craigslist, and he only got his money back after a long fight with his bank. Your gut saved you, take that as a win because these scams are way too polished these days.
