Cash envelope vs app: 6 months with each, which actually wins?
After tracking for 6 months I spent $213 less per month using cash envelopes in groceries, but the app gave me better records for checking where leaks happened. The question is whether the discipline of touching actual bills beats the convenience of auto-categorizing, or if I just got used to the method. Anyone else try both and find one stuck better for their personality?
Did your friend ever try just the opposite? Mine did cash only for like four months and swore it was life changing, then realized she was just making fewer trips to the store overall which killed all the little impulse buys. When she switched back to her card the spending crept up again, but honestly it was the trip count that mattered, not the paper bills. So maybe the win was less about cash and more about being forced to plan ahead.
