Honestly, we just trade watching each other's kids instead of hiring out. Tbh, it's the easiest budget win we've had in years.

Totally get this. Our street does the same thing and it cuts daycare costs in half.

Sounds great in theory, but that's a lot of trust to put in neighbors. What happens when someone's kid gets sick and suddenly your work day is ruined? Or when people have different ideas about screen time and snacks? It seems like a small conflict over rules could blow the whole system apart.
