I was mixing up some fertilizer for a client's flower beds and my neighbor, an old guy named Frank, saw me using the whole bag. He said, 'Eva, you're wasting half of that, just use a quart jar to measure it out.' I tried it and the mix worked just as well, cutting my usual cost in half. Has anyone else picked up a simple tip like that from an unexpected place?

My grandpa had a saying like that too, but his was about fishing. He'd say you need the whole worm to catch the big one.
