Unpopular opinion: my $7 planner from Walmart did more for my budget than 3 years of budgeting apps
I added up what I spent on subscription budgeting apps over 3 years and it came to $214. Last month I bought a cheap paper planner at the Walmart on Colfax and started writing every purchase down by hand. Seeing the numbers in pen made me way more careful, and I ended up saving $340 in 6 weeks mostly by packing lunch instead of eating out. Has anyone else gone back to paper after years of apps?
Kept a spreadsheet for years and it never stuck because I could close the tab and forget it existed. Switched to a small notebook I keep in my back pocket and it's a different game. Something about writing the number down with a pen makes it feel real in a way tapping a screen doesn't. I stopped buying coffee on the way to work just because I got tired of writing $4.75 in the same little box every single morning. It's not magic, it's just annoying enough to change your habits. Paper works because it's slow and you can't ignore a page full of dumb choices.
