Can we talk about mood tracker layouts that make no sense

I keep seeing these trackers where people put 31 little squares in a spiral or a flower shape and then wonder why they can't remember what day 17 even was. I tried that myself back in April, spent 2 hours drawing a maze, and by the 5th I was just guessing. Why not just do a simple grid with the dates down the side and leave it alone? Has anyone actually stuck with one of those fancy shapes for more than a week or am I the only one who bailed?

Taking that grid idea even further, why not just use a plain notebook page with the days listed top to bottom... one line per day, that's it. You can add a tiny face or a color dot next to each date if you want extra info, but the shape of it does zero work for you. The whole point of a tracker is to make recording faster and easier, not to add another layer of thought about where your pen goes. Those spiral ones look pretty in photos but they're basically art projects, not tools, and anyone who sticks with one past day 10 is probably just forcing it for the aesthetic. I switched to a vertical list with a simple 1-10 mood scale next to each date and I've actually kept it up for two months now, which says everything about what works.
