Appreciation post: The day I stopped trusting 5-star ratings on Amazon for good
I bought a desk lamp rated 4.8 stars from 2,300 reviews last March, and it died after 11 days. Then I noticed the top reviews were all posted within the same 48 hour window, which felt off. I started sorting by newest and reading the 3-star takes, and suddenly the real problems showed up, like the cord melting near the plug. Now I wonder if most of us are just reading the aggregate score and skipping the actual patterns. How many of you sort reviews by date or filter to 3 stars before you buy, or am I the last guy to figure this out?
