Finally nailed the inset door reveal on my first try yesterday

Had to choose between using a 1/2" or 5/8" overlay hinge and went with the 5/8" after measuring twice. Took a gamble and the gaps came out perfect at 1/8" all around. Anyone else struggle with getting those inset gaps consistent?

Oh man, you just had to flex about getting it perfect on the first try huh? I've been doing this for years and still end up shimming and cussing my way through inset doors like I'm building a crooked birdhouse. Lucky you didn't grab the 1/2" hinge though, then you'd be staring at a 3/16" gap on one side and crying into your tape measure. That 1/8" gap is the holy grail, but I swear it's like the universe just decides sometimes. Good on you for measuring twice, that's the only reason you're not posting a "help me fix this mess" thread right now.

Right there with you, Cora. I've been at this long enough to know that first try perfect is usually just beginner's luck or a setup for disaster next time.
