Showerthought: My cheap router sled from a year ago was fine until I tried a 4 foot walnut slab
I was flattening a big piece of walnut for a table and my old plywood jig just flexed too much. I built a new base from a 3/4 inch MDF torsion box and it made the whole cut smooth as glass. Anyone have a better idea for a super rigid base without going full aluminum extrusion?

Oh man, I saw a video where a guy laminated two sheets of 3/4 MDF with construction adhesive. That thing was a tank and didn't cost much. Your torsion box idea is solid, but that's another cheap way to get crazy stiff. Sometimes the simple glue up is the answer.

Ever try adding a layer of hardboard on top? My old plywood sled got way more solid after I glued some down.
