A crawl space in Portland took me four hours because of a single bad splitter

The job was a simple drop for a new customer, but the signal was dead at the outlet. I traced it back to a cheap, corroded splitter hidden behind some old insulation. It looked fine at a glance, but it was killing the whole line. What's your go-to move for finding hidden signal loss fast?

Man, that sounds like a nightmare. My buddy had a call last month that was almost the same. He was in an attic for three hours looking for a drop issue, and it turned out to be a corroded barrel connector someone had just electrical-taped over inside the wall. His big lesson was to always check for any weird lumps or bumps in the wall plate area, because sometimes the hack job is right behind it. He carries a cheap borescope camera now for stuff like that.

Ugh, those hidden splitters are the worst. I mean, you think it's gonna be a quick fix and then you're just stuck in some dusty corner for half the day. My go-to is just starting at the ground block and working my way in with the meter, checking every single connection point before I even touch the outlet. Those cheap ones fail inside where you can't see.
