Spliced a bad connector on a main line in Omaha last Tuesday at 5pm.
I was testing signal levels and it looked fine on the meter but the whole block went dark an hour later. Turns out the weather seal had a hairline crack letting moisture in over time - has anyone else seen this with the new compression fittings?

Blame it on those new compression fittings every time. They might test fine dry but a hairline crack turns into a disaster fast once moisture works its way in. Always put a wrap of rubber tape under the compression nut before you crank it down.

That 5pm Omaha thing got me thinking about humidity differences too. I had a similar situation last summer in KC where a block went dark after a rainstorm, and it was a bad batch of those new compression fittings. They're great when they're perfect, but once you get a crack it's game over. I started putting a thin layer of silicone grease inside the connector before crimping, just enough to fill any tiny gaps the seal might miss. Also, if you see any discoloration on the brass, don't even bother testing it just replace it, it's already compromised.
