Overheard a guy say he never cleans his lens contacts

I was at a camera meetup in Seattle last Saturday and this old timer claimed he never wipes the gold contacts on his Canon lenses. Said he just blows on them and that's it. Anyone else run into issues from skipping a proper clean with isopropyl?

Oh man, did he say why he thinks that's fine? Like did he have some weird theory about the gold coating or something?

Geez, why does everyone gotta overthink this so much? It's just a little damage, not like the whole thing is ruined. I mean, if he was going for a factory fresh look, sure, be upset, but half the people on this forum act like a scratch on a cheap gold plated connector is a crime against humanity. It's a connector, not a Faberge egg, you know? Unless he paid a crazy premium for some "precious metal" nonsense, who cares if it gets a little scuffed. Maybe he's just not as anal about his gear as some of you folks are.
