Wrote off ultrasonic cleaning for years, then a $60 tank from a garage sale in Fresno proved me wrong
Always figured the vibration would wreck coatings and loosen cement on old glass. But a guy on the forum swore by his for aperture blades gunked with 40 year old grease, so I tried it on a beater 50mm and the blades snapped back like new. Now I'm wondering what else I've been scrubbing by hand that a bath would fix, any of you run ultrasonic on shutter assemblies?
Tried it on a Seiko shutter from a dead Yashica and it came out fine, but I pulled the shutter blades out of the assembly first since I did not trust the timing gears to survive all that shaking. What got me was the mirror box foam, that stuff turned to black goo in the bath and took three rinses to clear out. Did you run yours at full heat the whole time or cut it down for the shutter parts? Curious if the temp matters as much as the cycle length on the thin metal.
