Bought a $40 tent from Walmart and got rained on for 6 hours straight

I figured hey, it's just a weekend trip, how bad could it be? Well I set up at Lake Tahoe last month and by midnight the seams started leaking like a sieve. I spent the whole night huddled under my rain jacket, trying to keep my sleeping bag dry. The next morning I counted 3 separate puddles inside the tent floor. Has anyone else had a budget tent fail on them in the middle of nowhere? I'm thinking of just saving up for a mid-range one now.

Yeah I used to think you could get away with cheap gear if you weren't too picky. But after one night in a downpour with a similar tent I totally changed my mind. I had one of those Ozark Trail specials and woke up floating in like an inch of water inside. My sleeping bag was soaked and I had to sleep in my car the second night. It's just not worth it man, you learn the hard way that waterproofing isn't something to cheap out on. Now I spend at least $100 on a tent and check the seam sealing before I even take it out. Sucks that you had to learn this way too but at least you know better now lol.

Hey man, $40 tent in a storm is kind of asking for it though.
