Counted my gear closet after 2 seasons and found 11 stuff sacks with no home, plus one big surprise
I got bored on a rainy Sunday in Tacoma and finally did the thing I keep putting off, which was pulling every piece of gear out of the closet and sorting it. Part of this was because I could not find my backup water filter for a trip to the Olympic Peninsula, and part of it was just guilt about the pile. When I counted everything up, I had 11 loose stuff sacks rolling around with nothing inside them, which makes zero sense since I know I did not buy them separately. The bigger shock was that I owned 7 headlamps, and I could only remember paying for 3 of them. It turns out my brother gave me one, a campground neighbor handed me another when mine died at Lake Chelan, and one got left in a tote from a gear swap years back. Sitting there with all 7 lined up on the floor, I realized I have been buying replacements because I never know what is buried in the closet, not because anything broke. So now I am wondering how you all store your small gear so you can see it without dumping the whole bin out, and whether a clear hanging shoe rack is a dumb idea or a genius one.
