Picked up a $20 used MSR PocketRocket at a garage sale in Flagstaff and finally boiled water in under 3 minutes at 9,400 feet
So I have been fighting my old white gas stove for a while now. It was heavy and fussy and I always smelled like fuel after a trip. My wife was honestly tired of me complaining about it every single time we went out. Two Saturdays ago we drove up to Flagstaff for a quick overnighter near Snowbowl. On the way out of town we hit a neighborhood garage sale and there it was, an MSR PocketRocket, twenty bucks, barely used. The guy selling it told me he switched to a Jetboil and never looked back. I figured even if it was a dud I was only out twenty dollars. Took it out that night, temp was around 38 degrees, and that little thing had a full pot rolling in under three minutes. I just sat there grinning like an idiot while my wife laughed at me. Anyone else make the switch from liquid fuel and wonder why you waited so long?
wonder why you waited so long" is doing a lot of work here for a stove that boils water. A white gas setup still beats a canister stove in real cold and when you need to melt snow for hours, so it isn't like you saw the light or anything. You just got tired of the smell and found a cheap stove that fits the trips you actually take.
