Shoutout to the old Coleman lantern that saved a trip in the Smokies
My fancy new LED headlamp died on night two, total darkness. I dug that old hissing beast out of the bottom of my pack and it lit the whole campsite for the rest of the week. Anyone have a go-to piece of gear they just can't retire?

Carrying a five pound backup lantern for a whole trip seems like a lot. My pack is heavy enough without adding a just in case item that big.

That Coleman probably weighs like five pounds, right? You carried that dead weight for days just in case? I get having a backup, but is a full lantern really needed when a couple of those tiny keychain LEDs would do the same job? Seems like extra trouble for a story.
