My realtor told me to skip the home inspection and I'm still kicking myself
I was buying a condo in Hamilton back in June and my realtor said 'these newer builds are fine, you don't need an inspection.' I listened because I was trying to save $500. Turns out the dishwasher was leaking into the subfloor for months and the bathroom fan wasn't vented outside at all. I ended up spending $2,800 on repairs after moving in. Has anyone else had a realtor give them bad advice like this?

Your realtor saying "newer builds are fine" is exactly what a friend of mine heard when she bought a townhouse in Burlington. Three months in, the furnace went out and they found the previous owners had never serviced it at all. She spent almost $4,000 to replace it and learned a hard lesson about trusting anyone who tells you to skip an inspection.

Oh man, I feel your pain so much. My parents got talked into the same thing when they bought a ten year old house in Mississauga. The realtor said it was "too simple" to need an inspection. Turns out the electrical panel had knob and tube wiring hidden behind all the drywall, which the city forced them to replace before their insurance would even cover them. That was a $6,000 surprise nobody warned them about.
