Rented a basement apartment for $1400 and my old place was $1800 - the difference was basically just having a window that opens
Moved from a highrise condo near Yonge and Eglinton to a basement unit in Scarborough last month. Thought I was downgrading but honestly the old place had a window that barely cracked open and the AC was always broken anyway. The basement stays cool in summer and the landlord actually fixes stuff. Only downside is the low ceiling and I can hear footsteps but for $400 less a month I can actually save for a down payment. Anyone else find that newer builds are just garbage for the price?

Wait, $400 less a month just for giving up a window that barely worked anyway? That's wild, man. Sounds like you actually upgraded if the landlord actually fixes stuff now.

Man, that reminds me of this old apartment I had where the bathroom sink would randomly shoot out rusty water for like the first 30 seconds. Landlord never fixed it but knocked $50 off our rent, felt like a win at the time. Still weird though, $400 is a lot just for a cranky window.
