Why does nobody talk about how fast a cheap tarp ruins a paint job
I parked my project car under one of those $30 blue tarps from the hardware store for about five months and when I pulled it off in March the roof and hood looked like someone took sandpaper to them. The tarp had flapped in the wind every single day, and where it rubbed, it wore right through the clear coat down to bare metal in two spots near the fender. What really got me was the moisture. The tarp trapped condensation underneath, so the whole car stayed damp, and I ended up with rust starting along the drip rails that was not there back in October. I had checked it once in December and figured it was fine because the tarp looked tight, but tight is exactly the problem when it moves a little every day. A guy at the parts counter asked if I used a tarp with a soft lining, and I had no idea that was even a thing. If you are covering a car outside for months, what do you actually run that does not scratch or sweat?
