Can we talk about how useless those LinkedIn open to work banners really are?

Honestly, I had mine on for 6 months last year while job hunting in Chicago, and all I got were messages from recruiters offering me roles in sales that paid half what I was making. Tbh, the only real interview I landed came from a friend of a friend who put my resume in the right pile. Has anyone else had better luck just using your network instead of that banner thing?

So basically that banner is just a way to tell recruiters "please send me jobs I don't want" for free. I got more traction from a text to my buddy Mike than I did from that whole 6 months of green ring nonsense.

Did you ever try actually calling those recruiters instead of just clicking a button? I had this one buddy who spent a year on all those job boards and got nowhere, then he just walked into a local shop and asked the owner if they needed help. Three minutes later he had a part time gig cleaning out storage rooms. Sometimes you gotta just talk to real people instead of hiding behind a banner.
