I sent out 47 applications before I finally got one interview, and it made me rethink my whole approach

I kept a spreadsheet of every job I applied to since March, and the number hit 47 last week. Out of all those, I got exactly 1 interview, and they ghosted me after the second round. I was applying to everything with the same resume and a generic cover letter, thinking volume was the answer. A guy I used to work with at my old warehouse job in Columbus looked at my resume and said I was basically screaming 'I'll take anything.' So I rewrote it to focus on one type of role, added real numbers from my last job, and cut the list down to 11 places I actually cared about. Two of those got back to me within a week, which is more than 47 did. Has anyone else gone the spray and pray route and had it blow up in their face like this?
